Showcase

One8 Applied Learning Student Showcase

Register for this event by April 3rd.

Please fill out this form if you are the chaperone and point person for a program at your school.  For example, if you are responsible for bringing OSE teams to Showcase, fill out this form on behalf of your school's OSE program.  If your school is also planning on bringing PLTW Gateway teams, another colleague should fill out the form for your school's PLTW Gateway programs.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL PLTW High School CAPSTONE STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO FILL OUT AN ONLINE MEDIA RELEASE FORM OR HAVE A PARENT/GUARDIAN SIGN THE FORM- the form will be sent out to educators closer to the event (no action needed yet!).  CAPSTONE STUDENTS WILL ALSO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW STUDENT PROJECTS AND PROVIDE FEEDBACK.

Note: other programs should still complete separate registration forms, but it's helpful to our planning to know what other programs to expect.

Which projects do you think your school might bring?  Early thinking is helpful in ensuring the projects your school plans to bring are eligible and will assist us in recruiting the most relevant industry volunteers for the projects being presented.

Other Important Notes:
Transportation:
We recognize that transportation is a significant hurdle.  Ideas from other educators: ask families to help (they are welcome to attend the showcase), use the commuter rail/MBTA (the Boston Landing stop is nearby), and utilize passenger vans (there are nearby garages with a max height of 8 ft).  While we do not offer funding for transportation, we are supporting a limited number of regional transportation groups that allow multiple schools/districts to attend together.  Contact Julia at [email protected]
for details.

Food:
Grab-and-go breakfast and a boxed lunch will be served.  Vegetarian and vegan options will be available. For other dietary restrictions, we cannot be certain that we will be able to safely accommodate attendees' needs.  If you or your students are uncertain about a dietary restriction being met, we suggest bringing food- there will be space and time for everyone to eat lunch at the end of the event.

The One8 Foundation media release authorization form can be viewed here.

Applied Learning inspires students with the thrill of discovery. What better way to culminate the year than with a student showcase? Student teams will have a table to present their Applied Learning project and 500+ industry professionals will circulate and talk with student groups – offering them verbal and written feedback.

Programs Included:

Schools have the chance to bring teams from multiple Applied Learning programs to the showcase. Schools can bring the following number of teams per program.

  • DKP, Investigating History (grades 5-7), OpenSciEd (grades 6-8), PBLWorks, PLTW Launch (grades 4-5), PLTW Gateway, PLTW Biomed, PLTW CS, PLTW Engineering*, ST Math (grades 4-5): 3 teams per program
  • PLTW Capstone (EDD, BI, & Common Capstone): based on program size**

*PLTW Engineering programs participating in the Clean Energy program may bring one additional clean energy team (for a total of 4 PLTW Eng teams)

**The number of teams you may bring was emailed to you earlier this year. Email [email protected] with questions.

Note: PLTW programs must have rostered in PLTW classes

Info needed to register:

Register by April 3rd to secure spots for your student teams at Showcase. Each program should complete one registration form. Meaning, your school may submit multiple registration forms (e.g., one form for OSE and one form for PLTW Gateway for a total of 2 forms submitted).

In the form, programs will be asked to provide:

  • Contact info for the chaperone point person; there should be one chaperone point person per program.
  • Number of teams participating
  • Estimated number of students
  • Projects teams are expected to bring (see eligible projects here)
  • A plan for how teams will be selected
  • If other programs from the school are expected to participate & plan for coordinating transportation
  • Your attendance at the Showcase Prep Webinar on Thursday April 16th, running from 9-9:30am and 3:30-4pm.

You will be asked to provide additional information about the teams who will attend the Showcase by April 16.
