Playlab | One8 Partnership

In August 2024, educators from the One8 Foundation’s grant-funded schools attended an AI design sprint with Playlab.  Playlab enables a global community of educators, students, and organizations to transform education with AI. Playlab supports educators to build AI literacy, explore possibilities and risks, and create tools that reflect their values and respond to their needs.

Groups of educators continued to build tools beyond the workshop, creating AI chatbots that supported implementation of the Applied Learning curricular programs that the One8 Foundation supports. Today, these tools are used by the larger Massachusetts educator community.

One8 Playlab Apps

  • OpenSciEd - CERi: Student Writing Feedback Tool

     

    CERi is a student writing feedback tool specifically designed for students using the 6th-8th grade OpenSciEd curriculum.  CERi was created during the 2024-2025 school year by Brendan Shea, Gabrielle Galicia, and Tonya Brainsky to interact with students when seeking feedback on their Claim-Evidence-Reasoning writing.  The AI tool acts like a veteran OSE teacher, providing prompts, questions, and suggestions without revealing information or words students have not yet encountered in the instructional materials

  • ST Math - JiJi Resource Scout

     

    JiJi Resource Scout is a tool that identifies resources to support local implementation.  The resource scout can navigate 7+ years of educator-created and shared resources in addition to the ST Math help site from MIND Research.  JiJi Resource Scout was created in Summer/Fall 2024 by Leigh Boland, Kris Hughes, and Billie Jo Lamoureaux and receives periodic updates from educators, MIND, and One8 to include the latest educator-created resources.

  • Applied Learning Showcase Navigator

     

    At the 2025 One8 Applied Learning Student Showcase on May 9, 2025, attendees were given the option to navigate the student projects using an AI companion bot.  We look forward to updating and finding more uses at Showcase 2026.
