VOLUNTEERS- Applied Learning Student Showcase Reg

The registration deadline for this event has passed.

Join us by volunteering to support and inspire the next generation of professionals [please note: this registration is for our industry volunteers.  Educators- sign-up for the event here]

  • Connect students’ learning with the problems you solve every day.
  • Give students feedback on their Applied Learning projects.
  • Increase motivation, persistence, and achievement for ALL students.

Students from across Massachusetts (grades 5-12) will gather to share their STEM, Civics, and Applied Learning projects with industry professionals like you. Here’s what you can expect from the experience:

  • The day will kick off with a short briefing and grab-and-go breakfast so you can meet your fellow judges and be ready to confidently engage with students.
  • You’ll interact with teams of students as they share their projects, offer suggestions, and share more about your own career.
  • The Showcase will close with a celebration of winning teams, and of everyone’s achievements!

Event FAQs

What types of professionals are you looking for? All are welcome! We want to expand students’  horizons and help them discover the diverse ways that they can apply what they are learning in school.  Many projects have a STEM focus, so volunteers whose careers have a STEM component or who work  in a STEM industry are especially needed – especially medical professionals. Students will also bring civics & history projects, great for lawyers, communications professionals, etc.

What projects will I see at the Showcase? Students will bring projects representing a variety of disciples, primarily STEM (think: app design, engineering prototypes, medical diagnoses and treatment plans, and much more) but also civics & history. Projects range in sophistication from elementary math to 12th-grade capstone projects in engineering and biomedical innovation.

Will you provide training to volunteers? At the start of the day we’ll give brief context for student projects and go over everything you’ll need for the day.

What is the deadline to sign up? The deadline to register as an industry volunteer in April 25th. Sign up at One8ALHub.org/volunteer-showcase.

Can I share this opportunity with people in my network? Yes! Please feel free to share this opportunity with anyone who would be interested. We are expecting around 500 teams of students and would love to connect them with more industry professionals at the event.

How can I get my company involved? Reach out to, or connect your employee engagement team lead with, Andreina at [email protected] to discuss partnering. At groups of 10+ volunteers we’re happy to recognize company impact on students through inclusion in the program, with increasing levels of recognition during the event and in media outreach with more volunteer engagement.

What is Applied Learning? Applied Learning is a research-backed educational approach that is proven to work for all students. In an Applied Learning classroom, students actively drive the learning. They use content knowledge, critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork, grappling with meaningful problems and creating solutions they are invested in.
