Online Industry Challenge
Student Solve
A 4-hour virtual design challenge for PLTW students. Register for this event by November 15th.
PLTW Gateway and High School students will have a chance to collaborate with an industry pro to solve a problem they actually face at their company – all virtually during a four-hour in-school field trip.
Students will work in teams and put their PLTW skills and tools to use, solving a real-world problem with the help of a virtual industry mentor. Using the PLTW design process and additional resources provided to teachers, students will “pain storm”, evaluate potential solutions using a design matrix, and share a solution with the company. Solutions will be submitted virtually, and the winning solutions will be announced by industry partners at the end of the event. Winning teams will earn a pizza lunch for their entire school!
Registration Details:
- Each teacher may register one class (up to 25 students)
- Mentors are limited; register as soon as possible to guarantee your class has an industry mentor to collaborate with
- Students must be PLTW students, but they can come from different classes (e.g., you can participate with one of your classes or select students from different classes)
- Students must work in teams of 3+ students (no individual solutions may be submitted), with a maximum of 5 teams
- When you register, you do not need to know the exact # of students and teams who will participate – an estimate is fine
- Tech requirements: two devices to connect to your industry mentor via Zoom – one set up facing the classroom for whole-group discussion and one for teams to meet individually with mentors. Plus a Google-connected device per team to access a Google site with Google suite resources and tools day-of.
