The OpenSciEd Middle School Massachusetts Grant Program provides schools with financial resources & on-the-ground support for adoption of OSE’s middle school science curriculum.
Grant Program Details
In school year 23-24, we are recruiting Cohort 4, which will being the adoption process in 24-25.
As a member of the cohort 4, schools are provided:
- Grant funding to offset professional learning and durable equipment costs
- Implementation support
- Priority access to in-state OSE Professional Learning
- Additional professional learning resources & student programming (e.g., educator networking, learning communities, and student industry showcases)
To participate, schools develop a three-year implementation plan that ensures:
- Full OSE curriculum adoption (all 18 units across grades 6-8)
- Whole school participation – 100% of students and teachers
- Robust teacher professional learning– all science teachers train in 4 units each
- Champions lead the work at the school level
Application Details and Timeline
Qualifications:
- Open to all public schools in Massachusetts that have students in grades 6, 7, and/or 8
- Schools must be in districts with at least 15% of students designated as economically disadvantaged
- A three-year implementation plan that leads to whole school participation and full OSE curriculum adoption
- Competitive preference for teams that demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to OSE’s instructional approach
Timeline:
- February 14, 2024: Grant Application Due
- March 11, 12 and 13 , 2024: School Interviews
- March 27, 2021: Award Notification
- April 24, 2021: Cohort Kick-Off Convening (in-person event in Worcester)
