Welcome and thank you for your interest in Investigating History Magnify’s program supporting implementation of Investigating History (IH) in Massachusetts. Funding and support for these school grants is provided by the One8 Foundation. 


The 2027-28 grant opportunity supports implementation of Investigating History in grades 3 through 7 by providing professional learning and school-specific support. In order to support implementation in different contexts, we will be offering two models for professional learning for schools depending on the grades and staffing model in each school. See Figure 1 for an overview of the two professional learning models.

Depending on the configuration and grades served in your school, this may mean that some of the teachers in your building will participate in Direct Professional Learning while others will participate in Train-the-Trainer Professional Learning. To ensure your school is participating in the program that is right for you, we are asking that all schools submit this short Letter of Intent by December 9th. We will use this to provide guidance on which professional learning model(s) are appropriate for your school and confirm this with you before you submit your full application.
High Level Programming Expectations
Schools that apply for the grant meet the following criteria:
  1. Have more than one grade that is applying to use IH in the school or have other schools in the district with additional grades implementing IH (e.g., a K-3 is not eligible unless applying with another school in the district serving additional grades or another school in the district has already received funding to support implementation)
  2. If an elementary school, have at least one middle school adopting IH (or applying to adopt IH) in their district
  3. Provide a schedule that demonstrates the ability to dedicate an average of 105 weekly minutes to IH in grades 3-5 (35 min x3) and 225 weekly minutes in grades 6-7 (45 min x5)
Competitive preference will be given to schools that meet the following criteria:
Schools in districts that serve >15% of students from low income backgrounds
  1. Schools in districts applying to use IH across grades 3 through 7
  2. Schools that are applying to join both Investigating History (gr. 3-7) and the Democratic Knowledge Project’s Civic Engagement in Our Democracy (gr. 8 civics) grant program
  3. Schools in districts that participate in at least one other One8 grant program (e.g., PLTW, ST Math, OSE, DKP)
Reviewing this Letter of Intent will allow IH Magnify to provide your school team tailored guidance regarding the professional learning model that is relevant to your school. You will receive a full grant application and personalized guidance from IH Magnify by December 16th; all applications are due on January 21st, 2027.
